How to Use Alcohol Anonymous Coins

Everyone loves to celebrate a milestone and getting sober is a major achievement. The tradition o awarding recovering alcoholics with AA coins began early when the fight against alcoholism was starting out. Drunkards who completed the recovery program were charged with the responsibility of taking care of a medallion given to them as a symbol of their dedication to AA and as way of showing their commitment. They were to return the coin before slipping back into alcoholism. This challenge led to the birth of a tradition that is observed until today.

Usually, getting through the first narcotic meeting is the hardest. Thankfully, most programs are welcoming and comfortable for any person starting out. AA coins are awarded depending on where you are and the type of program you enroll in. sometimes your sponsor may determine how frequent you get your coin.

However, the AA Bronze Chips is a significant yet humble way to mark your beginning on a sober journey. Fighting an addiction is never easy and most people could use a reminder every time they feel the urge to go back to their old habits. The first silver coin you get on your first meeting is a great way to mark the turnaround in your life and stick to it. The first token is a reminder of the most significant step in our adult life when you took things in control.  Regardless of where the coin system began, it is a great way to establish commitment among alcoholics and keep them focused on recovery.

Even though these coins may not be useful elsewhere, they are a motivation to the recovering alcoholic. The fact that every minute you spend being sober is recognized by someone is a motivation on its own. The role-played by sponsors in appreciating the length of time you spend being sober is something that keeps most AA's motivated. The different colors you receive at every stage of your sobriety is something to be proud of. You can always encourage those starting out that the journey gets easier with time even though it hardly seems so in the beginning.

The one-month chip is a red anodized aluminum chip or a red plastic poker chip. Two months on AA's receive a gold anodized aluminum medallion and three months on you get Bronze AA Tokens. Dark blue aluminum coin and purple aluminum coin are given after six and nine months respectively. Yearly tokens are then marked with bronze coins.
